Yes, there is a free ANOMALITH demo on Steam, PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2. Progress does not carry over: the PS5 demo store page explicitly says save data cannot transfer to the full game, and the demo announcement reports no carryover. Plan to restart when the full game launches. The producer estimates the demo represents about ten percent of the game's content.
The demo has changed over time. The September 29 update added Survival difficulty and control improvements, and the October 7 notes added an outfit reward for clearing the demo. This page explains where to download it, what it includes and what each update changed. It also covers what the demo cannot tell you about the full game.
Where to download the demo
The demo is free on all three platforms. Gematsu reported the three-platform demo launch on October 7, 2026. You can find it on each platform's official store page. No purchase is required.
| Platform | Where to get it | Price |
|---|---|---|
| PC | Steam store page | Free |
| PS5 | PlayStation Store | Free |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Nintendo eShop | Free |
Downloading the demo does not give you ownership of the full game. It is a separate product with its own save data. Buy the full release separately when you are ready.
Does demo progress carry over?
No. The PS5 demo store page explicitly states that save data cannot transfer to the full game. Gematsu's demo announcement also reports no save transfer.
Two sources agree, so you should plan to start again at launch. Nothing you collect in the demo will appear in the full game. Keep that in mind before investing many hours.
That makes the demo a trial rather than a head start. Use it to learn the controls, the inventory and the resource loop. Those skills carry over even though your save does not. Our beginner guide explains the loop in detail.
How much of the game the demo covers
The producer's October 21 letter estimates that the demo represents about ten percent of the game's content. That is a publisher estimate rather than a fixed playtime guarantee. How long the demo takes depends on how thoroughly you explore. Different players will finish it at different speeds.
AUTOMATON's demo impressions mention a playtime from the writer's own experience. That is one person's run rather than a standard length. Demo recording lengths on video sites are not completion-time guarantees either.
What the demo includes
The demo includes the core systems of the full game. AUTOMATON's impressions describe exploration, shooting, portal deposits and a workshop between excursions. That covers the dive and base loop at the heart of ANOMALITH. You can test both combat and resource management.
Noisy Pixel's preview, based on an earlier demo, describes Anomalization Skills using MP alongside gunplay. It also describes the grid inventory with automatic packing. These systems give a representative sample of how the full game plays.
September 29 update
The developer's "Improvements & Update Information" announcement on September 29 changed the demo. It added Survival difficulty. It also included control and balance changes, such as mouse support for inventory, keybinding additions and sensitivity adjustments. These changes respond to feedback from earlier demo players.
If you tried the demo before September 29, the current version may feel different. Controls on PC in particular were improved. Our difficulty settings guide explains the confirmed modes.
October 7 update
The October 7 notes added the ability to develop one of three Armed Schoolgirl outfit sets after clearing the demo. That gives players a reward for finishing it. The same date saw the demo released on all three platforms. The Steam store's update entry also points to an October 7 update.
The demo outfit unlock is not evidence that the outfit transfers to the full game. Demo saves do not carry over, so treat the reward as part of the demo only. The same outfit sets are included in the Digital Deluxe DLC set, as our editions guide explains.
Older demo footage
Some popular demo videos were recorded before these updates. ContraNetwork's demo gameplay video, for example, was uploaded on July 31 and predates the later changes. Footage like this still shows the general feel of the game. It should be labelled as an older build.
The more recent full-demo recording by Estinto, embedded above, was uploaded on October 25. It is a better reflection of the current demo. Its "4K 60FPS" title describes the upload rather than a benchmark for any particular system.
Running the demo on PC
The Steam store lists the same requirements for the game on PC. The minimum specs are Windows 11, an Intel Core i5-6600 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600, 12 GB of RAM and a GTX 1050 Ti or RX 5500 XT. Recommended specs step up to 16 GB of RAM and an RTX 2060 or RX 5700 XT. Both tiers list 40 GB of storage for the full game.
These are store specifications rather than measured frame-rate guarantees. The demo is the easiest way to check how your own PC handles the game. Steam Deck compatibility was shown as Unknown at the time of checking.
Use the demo to choose a platform
The demo is a free way to see how the game runs on your system. PC players can check performance against the published Steam requirements. Switch 2 players can judge handheld and docked play themselves. PS5 players can test the controls before buying.
Because the demo is free on every platform, it can help you decide where to buy. No platform comparison has been published with measured results. Your own experience is the best guide.
Is the demo worth playing?
The demo is a low-risk way to decide whether ANOMALITH suits you. AUTOMATON's impressions describe punchy gunplay and eerie liminal spaces. Noisy Pixel's full review praised aspects of the setting and gunplay while criticising narrative cohesion. The demo lets you form your own view of the strengths.
It cannot tell you how the full campaign holds up. Demo enthusiasm does not establish final-game pacing or story quality. Our review summary covers full-game impressions.
What the demo cannot establish
The demo cannot confirm full-game performance, difficulty balance or story outcomes. An older demo build may also differ from the release version. Outfits unlocked in the demo do not transfer. Treat demo impressions as a sample rather than a verdict on the whole game.
We will update this page if further demo updates are announced. Check the official Steam news page for the latest notes. Our contact page explains how to report changes.
