ANOMALITH lets you adjust the difficulty, and the Steam store lists adjustable difficulty among its accessibility features. The producer describes Normal as approachable for players less familiar with third-person shooters. A Hard mode appeared in the demo, and the September 29 demo update explicitly added a Survival difficulty. For a first attempt, Normal is a sensible starting point.
That recommendation is editorial advice, not a tested comparison of damage values. The evidence does not establish the complete difficulty menu for the launch version. This page separates what has been confirmed from what remains unknown. It will be updated once the full game can be checked directly.
Adjustable difficulty is confirmed
The Steam store page lists adjustable difficulty in its accessibility features. That is the clearest official statement that you can tune the challenge. It also suggests the option is intended to make the game playable for a wider range of players. The store does not, however, publish a full table of modes.
Producer Gai Kidokoro has said the team wants to accommodate different skill levels. In his interview with UK Anime Network, he discussed that intention directly. Together with the store listing, this confirms that difficulty is a deliberate design choice rather than an afterthought.
Normal is designed to be approachable
In an interview with AUTOMATON, the producer discussed making Normal accessible. The aim is for players who are not experienced with third-person shooters to be able to enjoy the game. The same interview mentions improving controls after player feedback. Both changes point toward a smoother first experience.
This makes Normal the natural choice if you are new to the genre. It is also a good option if you mainly want to explore the Anomaly Zones and follow the story. You can judge your comfort in the demo before committing to a harder mode.
Hard mode in the demo
A public video titled as a Hard mode playthrough of the demo was uploaded on July 31, 2026. That confirms Hard existed in the demo at the time. The recording predates the September update that added Survival difficulty. It therefore cannot tell us how Hard is balanced in the current build.
Use older demo footage for a general impression only. Enemy behaviour, damage and resource balance may have changed in later updates. If you want to know how Hard feels now, play the latest demo yourself.
Survival difficulty was added in September
The developer's "Improvements & Update Information" announcement on September 29 added Survival difficulty to the demo. The same update also included control and balance changes. It is the most concrete official record of a named difficulty option. The announcement is available on the official Steam news page.
The name suggests a more demanding experience, but the announcement does not publish exact damage or resource values. We do not invent multipliers to fill that gap. Treat Survival as a confirmed option whose precise rules still need checking in the full game.
Which difficulty should you choose?
Start on Normal if you are unsure. It matches the producer's description of an approachable experience and lets you learn the dive and base loop without heavy pressure. Once you understand resource management and combat, a harder option becomes easier to evaluate. Our beginner guide explains that loop in detail.
- Choose Normal for a first run or if third-person shooters are new to you.
- Try Hard if the demo felt comfortable and you want more pressure.
- Consider Survival once you know the systems well and want the most demanding confirmed option.
These suggestions are based on the published descriptions, not on measured comparisons. Your own comfort in the demo is the best guide. Remember that the launch version may present its options differently.
Use the demo to decide
A free demo is available on Steam, PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2. It is the most reliable way to test your comfort with the combat before choosing a difficulty for the full game. The producer estimates the demo covers about ten percent of the game's content. That gives you a meaningful sample of encounters and resource management.
Keep in mind that the PS5 store page says demo save data cannot transfer to the full game. Whatever difficulty you use in the demo, you will start again at launch. Treat the demo as a testing ground rather than a head start. The demo guide lists every dated update.
Difficulty and resource pressure
ANOMALITH is a survival shooter, so challenge is not only about enemy damage. The grid inventory and one-way portal deposits mean you constantly decide what to carry. On any setting, losing a well-stocked bag hurts your progress. That pressure is likely to feel stronger on more demanding modes.
If you move up a difficulty, deposit materials more often and keep extra supplies for emergencies. This is editorial advice based on the confirmed systems rather than a measured comparison. Our inventory space guide explains the tools available.
What reviewers say about the challenge
Noisy Pixel's October 21 review criticises the game for forgiving combat. That is one reviewer's opinion based on their playthrough. It does not prove that every difficulty is easy. The review does not specify a complete comparison across all modes.
If you found the demo too easy, this review suggests you may want to try a harder setting. If you found it challenging, Normal is still a reasonable choice. Our review summary covers the outlet's other points.
Controls and accessibility
Difficulty is only part of how comfortable the game feels. The September 29 update also added mouse support for inventory, keybinding options and sensitivity changes. Those improvements make the game easier to handle regardless of the mode you pick. PC players in particular benefit from the input changes.
If combat feels hard, check your control settings before lowering the difficulty. Better sensitivity can make a noticeable difference to aiming. The Steam guide covers PC input support.
Questions we cannot answer yet
Several common questions do not have verified answers. We have not confirmed the exact damage multipliers, every difficulty name in the launch version, or whether you can switch mid-save. We also have not confirmed trophy restrictions or difficulty-exclusive rewards. We will not publish an invented Story, Easy, Normal and Hard table.
Once the full game is out, we will update this page with verified details. If you notice a change in the launch build, our contact page explains how to tell us. Please include your platform and game version.
